MW Youth Football/Cheer FAQ

Q: When does the season start and end?

A:  The season will start at the beginning of August (exact date TBD) and go through the month of October.

Q:  What days will my child practice/play games or have competitions?

A: Football and Cheer is a big commitment.

Football

- C and B teams will practice 5 nights a week the first few weeks.

- Flag will practice 3 nights a week the first few weeks.

- Once games start practices will be Tues/Thurs. evenings and Saturday mornings for all levels.

- Games will begin the end of August and will be on Sundays; Flag-9:00, C Team-10:00,  B Team-12:00

Cheer

C and B teams will practice 4 nights per week and Flag will practice 3 nights per week. Days/times will be determined by the coaches as the season gets closer.  Cheerleaders are expected at home/away games on Sundays (with a couple exceptions) and at cheer competitions which typically occur on Saturdays.

*Both Football and Cheer could schedule practice on a different day/evening if there is a weather related or school related reason to cancel a day of practice.

Q: Why do they practice so much at the beginning of the season?

A: Safety!!  The kids have a lot to learn and there are conditioning requirements to be able to scrimmage and play in games so it is important that kids make all practices so they are eligible to participate in games.

Q: What paperwork does my child need to participate?

A: By the first practice you need to hand in a copy of their birth certificate, current picture (wallet size) and a copy of their most recent physical (it needs to be Sept. 2022 or sooner).  Kids without the proper paperwork will NOT be allowed to practice until it is turned in.

Q: How do I know which team my child plays on?

A:

- Flag- Kindergarten-2nd graders

- C Team- 3rd and 4th graders

- B Team- 5th and 6th graders

Q: Do the Flag kids play games/cheer at games?

A: Yes, flag does travel to play the same game schedule as the older teams.  Cheer also travels (with a few exceptions) to cheer for all games and they also participate in competitions throughout the season.

Q: What does the registration fee cover?

A: Equipment, insurance, refs, uniforms, cheer music, bows etc.

Q: Why is there a strict deadline for registering?

A: A lot goes into getting our teams organized for the season.  We need time to order uniforms and equipment, pay for insurance and make sure we have enough for each level so we can enter teams into the league and make the game schedule.

Q: What do they need to play?

A: Football-Cleats, Mouth Guard, Water Bottle

Cheer- water bottle & lace up gym shoes for practices; Navy or Black Tumble Shorts, Navy Leggings, White Competition Sneakers (all white, lace up, no color) and no show white socks for games and competitions

Q: Is there anything else I need to do as a parent?

A: Volunteer!! We require ALL parents to volunteer for 2 “jobs” throughout the season.  This could be things like setting up the field, running the clock during home games, being a part of the “chain gang” at away games or working the concession stand.  More information and sign ups will be emailed out.  We also accept donations for our concession stand throughout the season as needed.
